The Mazda MX5 sports car is a very popular two seater soft top sports car. It has earned this popularity over 20 year plus period for a very good reason three of which I have personal experience of:
- The MX5 is cost efficient to run (in all manners – including fuel costs, maintenance costs and insurance costs).
- It is practical – you can get a week to 2 weeks worth of shopping into the boot with ease.
- It is reliable, having owned a Mazda for three years I can honestly say that the only maintenance I’ve had done on it is replaced a stuck brake calliper, in my opinion that’s not bad over a three-year period!
As standard MK2 Mazda MX5 came with a soft top retractable roof, this is great during the summer months but come the winter, when the roof is permanently up there comes a time when you realise that the soft top isn’t all that practical. Fortunately Mazda had the foresight to see this and in turn produced a clip on hardtop roof. The MX5 hardtop is very easy to clip on and off, it does take two people to remove it and does take up quite a large amount of space off the car, but these disadvantages are far out weighed by the positives.
Having the hardtop clipped onto the Mazda gives both the driver and passenger more head room and a much quieter drive. Not only does the solid roof make it quieter but the hardtop actually makes the car a much warmer place to be when driving in the winter. For those of you that security conscious hardtop provides another benefit – it offers much better security than the soft top so if you’re planning on storing your MX5 somewhere for a while you might want to invest in a hardtop roof.
