People are not always willing to pay up for repairs on their old car and decide to leave it at the shop. The repair shop will often sell it to you for the price of the repairs.

You should always get it checked by a mechanic. You can ask for an inspection that will cost you around $75 in order to see if the car you want to buy is worth your $1000. This could help you preventing on buying a bad car.
