Stop Nail Biting – Easy Methods You Can Use
Posted on February 17th, 2010 No commentsNail biting in a lot of cases just comes down to pure boredom and the need for something to do with the person’s hands. Other times, the nail biting can be done out of habit, this habit having been embedded into the person over many years. But, for many people it is part of a reaction to being stressed. Everybody who bites their nails would like to stop nail biting permanently. There are many different treatments which help conquer the habit of nail biting. Some methods attempt to deal with the habit itself, trying to reverse the habitual nature of the biting. Other techniques to stop nail biting include hypnosis, when a person visits a hypnotherapist. Yet further techniques can involve preventing the nail biting by placing a barrier between the nails and the mouth.
If you are trying ways to stop nail biting then you should understand that perseverance is the key. You have to pick your technique and see it through. If you don’t stick to your plan you’re not going to succeed. For a start, you can purchase and apply one of the many nail biting products that are available from your pharmacy; in some cases your doctor may be able to write you a prescription for these products. These anti-nail biting products, such as the nail biting creams or polishes, are generally applied to the fingertips on the nails so that there is a foul taste once the nail biter puts his fingers inside the mouth. It is an automatic reaction that upon tasting something foul in our mouths, we tend to spit it out, and this has the effect of alerting you to the fact that you are putting your fingers in your mouth and you are trying to bite your nails. Sometimes nail biting is done unconsciously.
Another method to help you stop fingernail biting is to really look after your nails (this works particularly well for women). Having pride about your nails is all about trying to keep them clean and well manicured. When you spend a lot of time caring for your nails, manicuring them, painting them with nail polish, you are a lot less likely to bite them. Perseverance is still the key. Also you can elicit the help of your family and friends. Just tell them exactly what you are trying to do and get them to inform you if they see you attempting to bite your nails.

Be Free of Your Driving Fears
Posted on January 30th, 2010 No commentsBreaking free of a fear of driving on freeways (or anywhere else for that matter) is not easy, but it is possible if you understand the forces that are at work behind your fear.
The Fear Cycle:
1) Recollection of a frightening memory or mental image. You don’t even need to have actually had something happen to you, perceived threats can be just as real as ones learned from experience.
2) Physical Response. Your body will react to fear in a number of ways, a quickening of your heart rate, hyperventilating or even dizziness and fainting. You can try to reduce your physical symptoms concentrating on steady breathing, in through your nose out through your mouth.
3) Fight or Flight Response. Instinctually you are wired with two choices when confronted with a perceived danger. You can fight (Rather hard to do while your driving) or you can flee. Fleeing might take the shape of pulling over, parking or even refusing to drive all together.
Breaking the Cycle:
Breaking free of your fear takes a different internal process for everybody but there are a few solid approaches. Break your problem into manageable chunks, is the fear in question based on a memory if so write down your memory in detail and try to figure out why it happened. Most traumatic crashes can be avoided with simple safe driving practices, come up with a list of scenarios and take them with you while you attend a refresher course at the local DMV. Another approach is to learn some breathing and meditation techniques to carry with you into your day to day challenges. My personal favorite method of beating my fear is to simply face it head on in small doses until I am desensitized so to speak.
The question of how to get rid of fear of driving isn’t an easy one to answer; but as with all problems in life a little concentration on the problem and hard work can help.

What Can Lasik Fix?
Posted on January 24th, 2010 No commentsIf you watch television, you are undoubtedly being inundated with a litany of Lasik eye surgery commercials. If these are to be believed, any possible vision problem that you may have can be easily resolved by Lasik. However, this impression is not based in reality. In fact, Lasik is primarily used to correct refractive eye problems. Since we believe a better educated patient make for a better patient, this section is going to describe the three main eye problems that Lasik can resolve.
First though, let’s define what a refractive eye problem is. In a nutshell, a person has a refractive eye problem when the light that passes through the pupil and cornea isn’t focused properly on the retina. As the retina is the area where the image is formed, if the light isn’t properly focused on it, it creates a vision problem due to the distorted image.
The first vision problem is nearsightedness. A typical patient who has this condition will have the image focused in front of the retina, when it should be focused on the retina. As a result, the patient will see images that are close fine while farther objects will be blurry.
The second eye problem is farsightedness. This occurs when the pupil and cornea focus the image behind the retina. When this occurs, images that are close become blurry and further objects will look normal.
The last eye problem that Lasik is normally used to resolve is astigmatism. This condition results when either the lens or the cornea is misshaped. The outcome of this situation is that instead of the light being focused on one spot, it is focused in two spots.
If any of these three situations apply to you, Lasik eye surgery may be the right solution for you. A life where you will be able to see clearly without having to wear glasses or be bothered with putting in and taking out contact lenses can really make life a bit more enjoyable. Not only that, you will probably feel more attractive as well as more free. If you don’t know who to go to in order to get this procedure done, ask around and see if anyone you know can give you recommendations. If you have any further questions, we recommend you visit the Lasik in Dallas Guide.

Hair Pieces Can Enhance Your Look
Posted on January 15th, 2010 No commentsWhen someone hears the term hair pieces they immediately think of Grandma’s wig or Grandpa’s toupee on the dresser in their bedroom, but things have come a long way since then. These are custom crafted replacement hair systems that allow someone with hair loss issue to retain that youthful look while still maintaining an active lifestyle. With the advancements in technology, the attachment methods and general fit for these far surpass those of the old toupees and wigs.
Most hair pieces are constructed with a nylon or polyester mesh base that fits very closely to the scalp. These can provide an almost undetectable hairline and by using an approved liquid adhesive, will not shift or move in the slightest. They do however, need to be removed at a minimum of every five days to allow the scalp to breathe and be cleaned.
One of the other attachment methods for hair pieces is weaving. This is accomplished by weaving the hair piece in to the existing hair. The only issue with this method is that in order to remove it, you must visit a hair technician or stylist so that it may be removed and reattached properly.
There are many different liquid adhesives available on the market today. These can be easily found online and the hair piece manufacturer will have recommendations for which ones to use with their product. The final method of attachment is using clips.
The use of clips not only makes it easier to take off and put back on but also minimizes the risk of any further loss to the remaining hair. Depending on your lifestyle, finding the easiest and most efficient method of attaching this should not be too difficult. Take the time to do some research online and browse through all of your options. Although having hair pieces isn’t for everyone, it is cheaper than many of the other options. You can at least have an enhanced sense of confidence in yourself and at the same time, look more attractive as well. The investment in self enhancement products like these can really create a positive change in your life so if you have been wondering what to do with your balding head but don’t want to spend a ton of money, then using a hair piece might just be what you are looking for.

Time Management Using The Pomodoro Technique
Posted on January 8th, 2010 No commentsTime. It is something that we cannot get back. You can earn more money, you can redo a project, you can lose weight you gained but once time has passed, it is gone. That is why time management is so important. How we use our time throughout the days, weeks, months and years of our lives is so important. We have to make them count. One area of your life that you may need to improve your time management is with work, especially if you own your own business.
The saying goes “Time Is Money” and that certainly rings true and hits close to home when you are self employed and you are only accountable to yourself. You can quickly lose focus spending time checking emails, twittering, using Facebook or even sitting on the couch watching TV. When you have no boss to report to it is extremely easy to say “I can do it later”. Truth is yes, you can do it later, but will you? Most of the time, you won’t, and if you do it’s not just later, its way later and so you’ve lost time. Now you have more things to do and things can get hectic.
Using time management will really help you find the balance between work and Facebook. If you organize your day you can find ways to work in the little social moments you need in your life. One effective way to do this is by using the Pomodoro Technique. The Pomodoro Technique is so simple, yet so effective. The premise is you work without interruption for a solid 25 minutes on a single task and then you take a five minute break. You do this for 2 hours and then you can take a longer break. This helps you find some balance between work and twitter. Truly, it helps your mind stay focused on one task at hand rather than being scattered all over the place. If a thought pops into your head during the 25 minutes you write it down and either schedule a separate pomodoro for that item or if its quick enough, take care of it on your break.
When you work for yourself you have to make the minutes of your day count. You don’t have to spend all of those minutes working, but the ones you do choose need to be productive otherwise you will quickly find yourself lost.

Jumping Higher Through Visualization
Posted on January 4th, 2010 No commentsAlthough it may come as a surprise to most, increasing jumping ability does not only mean that you should push yourself to practice hard physically. It may be true that if you want to know how to jump higher in basketball, you need to work out and tone your entire body. This requires you to undergo trainings and exercises to push you to your limits. However, what is a physical training without mental stimulation? Yes, that is true. Seeing yourself jump higher and imagining your goal will help you achieve the jump that you are practicing for.
Many people say that for you to be able to achieve your goals, you must first think of yourself achieving that goal. This means that if you want something, visualize it and motivate yourself by seeing yourself doing it already. In jumping higher, think of exact number such as the height of which you want to increase your vertical jump and the amount of time you are looking at before achieving this. You could also visualize yourself jumping higher and dunking a ball after the other and rebounding or blocking as much. This will push you to move forward and exert more effort. Also, visualizing your goals makes you pursue it even further.
A lot of athletes and aspiring ones out there focus just on the physical aspects of things. They seem to forget that the mind gives a lot of impact in making your dreams happen. Imagine an Olympic gold medalist. All his life, that person might have had the gold medal in mind and he visualizes himself as being awarded that medal in the future. Because of this dream and because he deems it to be something real and plausible, he gives all of his effort in making sure that his dreams become reality. In fact, top athletes will often times see the outcome of their action before performing the action whether if the sport is golf, gymnastics, or even basketball. This is the same in any goal, whether it be jumping higher or snagging the MVP.
There are obvious many exercises to jump higher as well as workout routines that you can do but unless you see it your mind the result of all that training can do for you, you won’t reach your true potential. Try this visualization exercise. Get a piece of chalk and jump as high as you can against a wall and mark the height of your jump. Now, stand back and take a good look at the height of the mark you just made. From here, close your eyes and visualize jumping up and making a mark that is an entire foot higher than the mark you just made. Do this over and over, at least a dozen times. Then, open your eyes and have it fixed on a spot a foot above the mark you made; this will be your new goal. Then go ahead and jump and make another mark. Most people will find that they are able to jump higher after doing this simple exercise. This if the power of visualization when it comes to jumping higher.

As you’re learning, this is absolutely possible. We’ve already discussed that one of the quickest ways to put yourself in a state is by changing your physiology… moving your body a certain way, your facial expressions, your voice….acting “AS-IF” you are already in the state.
Now let’s talk about Anchoring. Anchoring is a process that you are very familiar with whether you consciously know it or not. In fact we are always anchoring.
When you’re in a peak emotional state… good or bad…. the things that consistently happen around you while you’re in that intense state become associated to that state. You identify them with your state of mind and an ANCHOR is created. And that stimulus that was consistently happening around you now triggers that state within you. Thrive Learning Institute can help you achieve the emotional state for success.
