DVD Rentals – 3 Ways to Get the Best Out of It
Posted on March 4th, 2010 No commentsThe online DVD rental market is a fiercely competitive industry, and so we hear and read lots about their special offers and promotions. But do the services work well for everyone?
There’s no doubt that the majority of people using one of the services like Redbox or netflex dvd movies like the services they offer, but what are the main advantages?
It’s Cheaper if you Budget
Cost is undoubtedly one of the biggest advantages of using an online dvd rental service. The cheapest plan I can find at the moment is $7.99 a month which is for 1 rental at a time (you can swap this as often as you want though).
If you compare this to a pay per view movie ($4.99 a month), you can see that it can turn out to be exceptional value if you use the service right. The other option would be to rent a movie from your local store, but that involves more hassle and if you have ever been late returning one, you’ll know that the late fees can really rack up.
Unlimited Choice
After cost, choice is the next advantage cited by consumers as a reason to love the online providers. There is virtually an unlimited choice of movies, TV programs and documentaries to choose from. netflicks.com for example claim to have over 100,000 titles in stock, ranging from the latest blockbuster movies through to obscure BBC natural history programs.
Convenience Counts
Wherever you live, the rental companies will send your dvd selections right to your door. That means no more driving to the store to select a movie, no more driving to the store to return the same movie, and no more late fees if you don’t get it back on time.
When you have finished with the movies you’ve been sent, just drop them back in the mail and you will receive new movies within a couple of days or so.
The reasons outlined above are just 3 of the many reasons so many people are now using online services to rent DVD movies. They are far from being a complete list of plus points, but they do cover the main reasons consumers give for choosing this type of service.

Easter Egg Hunt Clues
Posted on February 24th, 2010 No commentsEaster is great fun, and the annual egg hunt is splendid. How about shifting up a gear this year and doing something really creative with your egg hunt rather than just hiding them?
You could just hide your eggs for people to hunt this year, but it’s more fun to make it a bit of a challenge. I know that my kids prefer to do something different every year. So here are two great ideas, and how to put them into action.
1. The pirate clues.
Hide all the eggs as usual, but make a treasure map of the location of all of them. Make it challenging in the following ways. You could put names on the map of different names of your house and garden: the Canyon of Surprise, the Kitchen of Despair.
How about you put clues to clues? I gave my kids last year a hunt that started in one part of the house and each location had a cryptic clue to the next location, and so on right round the house until they found the final location of the stash.
You could also use a compass and a map and say something like “10 feet north of the potted plant on the porch.”
For younger children they could actually get dressed up as pirates.
2. Hide clues in plastic Easter eggs
Each clue leads to the next clue as above, but you put the clue in a hidden egg. Use some miniature chocolate eggs to be guzzled on the way round otherwise the little one’s might lose interest. For a bit of a different idea, why not get one of those key rings which responds to clapping and put it inside one of the eggs. That way one of the clues could be something like “Go into the kitchen and start clapping. When the chick whistles you can find his hiding place.”
Why not hide the final stash of chocolates in one location, take a photograph of that place and then print it off on your printer. Cut the picture up into small sections and hide each part in an egg, then hide the eggs all over your playing area. Send the kids out to find the eggs, and when they come back they will have to reconstruct your make shift jigsaw puzzle! From that they can deduce where you have hidden the mother-lode.
You can find some more Easter egg hunt games and other great local source of plastic craft eggs online.

Is A Small Wedding Venue Right For Your Wedding?
Posted on February 10th, 2010 No commentsYou’ve finally settled on a date for the big day. Now you must decide where to get married. You could have a childhood fantasy of being married at a beach, in a particular church, or in the middle of your favorite theme park. But if you’ve decided on a small guest list, you may want to choose a small and intimate wedding venue. As the location is one of the largest items on your wedding budget, here are some points to consider before making your final choice.
Number of Guests InvitedCreating a guest list is a crucial step in successfully choosing a small wedding venue. Once you have determined how many people you will invite, decide what percentage you will bank on attending. Talk to the owners or caretakers of the venue you want to select to see how many guests they believe they can accommodate. Don’t forget to estimate how many parking spaces your guests will need — hopefully they won’t have to walk too far from their vehicles.
Will You Have a Band?
If you hire a band for your wedding day, you will need to give them space to play (and space for the audience to stand back from their speakers). A small wedding venue might need some clever rearranging to allow a stage on one side of the room or space.
Where’s the Reception?
Do you want your guests to have to relocate for the reception? If not, your small wedding venue must accommodate the food, gifts, and tables needed for a reception.
Photo Considerations
A small wedding venue may not provide the adequate space and locations for the type of wedding day photography you want. If this is the case, you can have the shoot at the reception location (if it differs from the ceremony venue), or choose to hire the photographer for an extra day and take the wedding party somewhere else.

The Twilight Saga
Posted on February 6th, 2010 No commentsThe film adaptation of Twilight tells the story of everyday teenager Isabella “Bella” Swan’s blossoming relationship with turn-of-the-century vampire Edward Cullen. The film’s sequel, New Moon, continues their story with a Romeo and Juliet paralleled love triangle. June 2010 will see the release of a third sequel, Eclipse. The fourth novel, Breaking Dawn, has yet to be adapted for the big screen.
The Twilight movies center around the lives of the ceaselessly beautiful Cullen clan of vampires, and the cast definitely delivers in aesthetics: starring Robert Pattinson as Edward and featuring Peter Facinelli as Carlisle Cullen, Ashley Greene as Alice Cullen, Kellen Lutz as Emmett Cullen, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper Hale, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme Cullen, and Nikki Reed as Rosalie Hale as his vampire family. Beyond the Cullens, a number of vampires are introduced throughout the movies through the acting talents of many different actors, including Dakota Fanning, Edi Gathegi, Cam Gigandet, and Michael Sheen.
Edward’s love interest, Bella, is played by young but accomplished actress Kristen Stewart. The story takes place in Forks, Washington, after Bella decides to leave Arizona to move in with her awkward but loving father, Police Chief Charlie Swan. Chief Swan is played by Billy Burke, who has no idea that the very pale, beautiful Cullens are actually vampires.
Bella attends high school with Edward and his siblings at the local public school, Forks High School. None of the residents of Forks know that people they live, work, and attend school with are actually vampires, but the townsfolk all share a natural tendency to shy away from the vampires. Despite her lack of popularity back in Arizona, Bella quickly makes friends at her new school: Jessica Stanley, played by Anna Kendrick; Angela Weber, played by Christian Serratos; and Mike Newton, played by Michael Welch.
Bella becomes close friends with Jacob Black, the son of one of Chief Swan’s best friends. Jacob is played by Taylor Lautner, and Jacob has his own supernatural secrets revealed in the New Moon magic movie and becomes an integral fixture of the story.
Both fans of the series and newcomers can enjoy this tale of devoted love and unending trust, but newcomers probably won’t follow some of the details. Newcomers should also know that the series isn’t just romance; action and suspense are also heavily present.
Twilight grossed $35.7 million on its opening day and has since grossed nearly $385 million worldwide at the box office. DVD sales have brought in over $186 million. New Moon set records with its opening domestic gross of $72.7 million. The DVD will be available March 20, 2010.

Can Online Psychic Readings Be Valid?
Posted on February 1st, 2010 No commentsToday, one can find almost any service imaginable online, and a psychic reading is no different. For those who live in an area that is devoid of psychics, or those who prefer the convenience of a psychic reading from the privacy of their own home, online psychics can seem appealing. However, with so many online scams, and the necessary lack of face to face contact involved in these transactions, it is easy to wonder whether or not you are dealing with a true psychic.
Those who believe in psychic abilities maintain that there are in fact many reputable psychics who give readings primarily online. While there are mediums or clairvoyants who need contact with a client in order to get a reading, this is not always the case. When conversing with a psychic online, whether via email or chat, it may be necessary to provide some personal information to help them make a connection with you. Others may need almost nothing at all.
Though there are true psychics online, there are also those who feign psychic abilities just to make a buck. One of the biggest tip offs to these scams is the look of the website. Those that offer access to hundreds of psychics with just the click of a mouse are rarely legitimate. Websites that offer a lot of flash, but little information on the person or persons with whom you will be conversing are also a bad sign. Remember that most psychics are home-based and self-employed. Their websites may not be terribly professional or flashy, but you can be assured that you are speaking directly with the owner who cares.
In general, it can be easy to look up the reputation of an online psychic through third party websites. If you find that they have a long list of satisfied customers, you can feel confident that you are dealing with someone reputable.
You can find out more about by visiting Psychic Reading on the Net.

All About Wedding Cakes
Posted on February 1st, 2010 No commentsWedding cakes are a large part of the wedding experience, and there is a huge market for the goods. A wedding just isn’t the same without a nice cake to be used for some last minute facial makeup. Some shops prefer to make large, extravagant cakes, others specialize in the smaller, more homely cakes, but whether they are large and spectacular, or small and homely, these cakes are special to the bride and groom, it is one of the first things they share as a proper, married couple, and it is meant to be memorable.
The traditional wedding cake is a large, tiered or layered cake with a sheet of marzipan or fondant over each layer, with heavy icing on top of said sheets, with any assortment of wedding cake toppers. Of course, as with every wedding, the cakes themselves can be unique and custom as well. Beyond the traditional sponge cakes, there exist gourmet wedding cakes offered that some couples prefer over the usual; those of which employ different mixes, such as cheesecakes or butter cakes.
When it comes to the toppers, there are such things as custom wedding cake toppers, going above and beyond the basic statues of the groom and bride standing atop the cake holding hands. Monogram wedding cake toppers, which are just as they sound, often similar to initial wedding cake toppers, but fancier, more visually appealing, with glitter or shiny materials, sometimes with a floral decoration as well. You can get a better idea of all of the different types that are available by going online and searching for pictures. You’ll be able to find thousands of them that will fit any theme that you may have in mind.
Wedding cakes can range in prices, depending on the shop, but the average cost in the United States in 2005 was $550. Now, if that seems pricey, you are right, it is, but as they say, you cannot put a price on memories. If the topic interests you, there are a variety of shows on television, mostly on The Food Channel; Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes, and then on WE (Women’s Entertainment) Amazing Wedding Cakes.

Ninja Turtle Birthday Party Ideas
Posted on January 27th, 2010 No commentsNinja Turtle birthday parties are almost as popular right now as they were in 1989 and 1990. Their fame hasn’t seemed to fade over time, like many of the other early 90’s cartoons have. Thanks to really good video games and a new cartoon series they are still hanging around and kicking Shredder’s butt. In this post I want to offer some tips for planning a Ninja Turtle birthday party that I’ve gleaned from throwing one myself.
The key to hosting a successful TMNT birthday party is to do the things that the Turtles do. That means that someone has to designate themselves as Michelangelo and be the “party dude!” This person has to be in charge of keeping things going and very exciting. The age level of the kids will determine what you do, but the options increase the older the kids are. We were able to have a small video game tournament with a game on the Playstation where everyone played through a level and we timed them to see who could make it through the fastest.
Your food choice is simple, pizza. That’s the Turtle’s food of choice, so it has to be in your party. The type of pizza doesn’t really matter, so you can have it delivered or go somewhere. Pizza can be pretty cheap, so this is an opportunity to save some money (think Little Caesars).
Dessert is easy too. There are two retired Ninja Turtles cake pans that are really easy to find online that you can pick up and decorate yourself. Usually, retired cake pans are pretty expensive, but these have somehow missed the collector’s wish lists and have remained very cheap. Decorating the cake is easy too since they are very simple shaped cartoon characters.
Ninja Turtles birthday parties are a blast. Use the simple tips that I’ve offered here and you’ll have as much fun at yours as we did!

Love to Rent DVDs Online
Posted on January 26th, 2010 No commentsIf you’ve read any of my earlier posts, you will know for sure that I’m a massive fan of watching movies. From my local movie theater, where I watch all the latest blockbusters, to my local DVD rental store where I rent all the movies I want to see again or missed the first time round for some reason. And then of course there are online DVD rentals.
It didn’t surprise me recently when I read that over 30 million homes are subscribed to an online DVD rental service, because there are some very good reasons why renting online is a great way to see all the movies you want:
1. Choice – Whatever type of movie you like, chances are you will find it on a site such as trynetflix.com. They have more than 100,000 movie titles available to rent, so you can be pretty certain they will have what you want. You sometimes have to wait a few days for the latest releases, but you will receive them eventually.
2. Movie Previews – Almost all the sites have the facility to watch movie clips before you rent. Added to that, you can read movie reviews from customers that have already watched the film – with a little luck; you’ll never rent a movie that sucks, ever again.
3. Never Pay Late Fees Again – Hands up if you’ve ever forgotten to return a video or DVD to the rental shop on time……..me too! One of the best features when online DVD rentals first started was the guarantee of no late fees. I used to get really ticked off when I was a couple of hours late returning a disk to be charged an extra day’s rental.
There are not many areas of our lives that haven’t been touched and improved in some way by the Internet. And there’s no doubt that companies like Blockbusters, Netflex.com, and DVD Avenue have transformed the way we now watch movies at home. The market for DVD rentals is fiercely competitive and there are some great deals to be had – it’s well worth looking out for these deals before you sign up and even if you have a current membership.

Festive and Colorful Wedding Invitations
Posted on January 23rd, 2010 No commentsThe day is close at hand for the bride and groom, the list of attendees has been constructed now the daunting task of selecting the perfect wedding invitation. The best way to start the process on selecting your colorful wedding invitations is to consider the different styles that are on the market. When you begin your search the best course of action is through careful planning. By having an idea in your mind through images and clippings from bridal magazines you are sure to find the perfect invitation. A few key factors to keep in mind are the scheme and ambiance that you are wishing to create. What color will your brides maids be wearing, or the colors in your bridal bouquet. If you keep these key factors in mind, the selection process can be rather easy, helping to create a lasting memory for your guests and yourself.
When you go to purchase your invitation keep in mind that you will need to produce RSVP cards as well, these are purchased separate from your invitations. Make sure you do a roll call prior to buying your invitations this will help to cut cost and help to create the perfect ambiance for your wedding. Another thing to remember is using to many colors on your invitations can be a costly expense, so choose carefully. Accessories for your invitations are separate expenses as well, such as the RSVP cards and reception cards. In order to have different wedding invitations remember that there are many different things that can be added to them for that special touch. The best course of action is to place as much information on one or two cards. Also consider are you having a large or small wedding? Some places offer a discount on the number of invitations that you are ordering. Quantity can save money, however you do not want to have an over abundant amount of cards left over. However, you do want to have one for you and the groom that can be framed with your wedding photo.
When you plan for the affair and have an idea of what style of invitation you are wanting to send out, this will help cut cost and permit you a longer period of time to purchase the cards. This will ensure that you create the perfect expectation for your guest and a lasting memory of your beautiful day.

Tall Centerpieces for Weddings
Posted on January 15th, 2010 No commentsTable centerpieces are the focal point of any reception because they are right in the middle of everything. Tall centerpieces for weddings are quite elegant and can enhance even the most mundane table settings. The benefit of using a tall centerpiece is that you never have to worry about not being able to see the first dance or the cutting of the cake or anything of the sort. Since the centerpiece on your table sits up high, you won’t have to worry about a splay of flowers in your face.
One of the prettiest tall wedding centerpieces that most people over look are feathers. Peacock feathers are a beautiful accent to any centerpiece that come in a large variety of colors. Each feather contains multiple colors on its own, but can be tailored to suit your needs. If you are looking for a specific color, you can have them dyed or even purchase some from your local craft store in the color of your choice.
Ostrich feathers are a nice feather to use in any centerpiece as well. They come in a multitude of colors and have a nice plume so they splay out like a palm frond. For a really dramatic look, look online for places that will rent you ostrich centerpieces. They usually come in a large 28 inch vase with lights so that they eliminate through the plumes. There are a large variety of colors and vases available that can make a very stunning piece.
If flowers are what you are really wanting for your more traditional wedding, long stem roses, sunflowers and lilies are a perfect choice for your tall wedding centerpieces. These flowers are naturally already very tall, so once inside a vase they will make a perfect addition. To spice up your flowers even more, try using colored marbles to fill the vases or use water tinted with food coloring.
